You might be here because

Reiki is most helpful when something feels stuck — in the body, the nervous system, or the energy that runs underneath both.

You're exhausted but can't fully rest or slow down
Anxiety or stress keeps cycling back no matter what you try
You carry tension or pain in your body that nothing seems to touch
You feel disconnected — from yourself, your body, or your emotions
You're in a period of change, grief, or emotional transition
You want to support other healing work — therapy, somatic work, or recovery
You're drawn to energy healing but not sure where to start
Your nervous system needs support — and you want something gentle

"If you want to find the secrets of the universe,
think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration."

— Nikola Tesla

What is reiki?

"Reiki is love, love is wholeness, wholeness is balance, balance is wellbeing, wellbeing is freedom from disease."
— Mikao Usui

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice developed by Mikao Usui in the early twentieth century. The word combines rei (universal) and ki (life force energy) — the same energy known as chi in Chinese medicine and prana in Ayurvedic tradition.

A reiki session works with the body's subtle energy system — supporting the nervous system in shifting out of stress and survival, and into rest, repair, and receptivity. It doesn't require belief to work. It simply requires presence.

In Montréal, reiki is increasingly recognized alongside therapy, somatic work, physiotherapy, and other body-based approaches. Many clients find it deepens other treatments by bringing the system into a more open, receptive state.

Rio's approach to reiki in Montréal is ceremonial, intuitive, and informed by 17+ years in bioenergetic healing — woven through craniosacral therapy, Quantum Touch, and somatic naturotherapy.

Hello — I'm Rio

Reiki Practitioner · Somatic Naturotherapist · Montréal

I began integrating reiki into my practice in 2019 — and it has woven itself into everything since. Each session draws on reiki alongside Quantum Touch, bioenergetic and craniosacral work, so the energy follows what the body is ready for, not a fixed protocol.

My approach has a ceremonial quality to it. Sessions are held with intention and presence — more ritual than routine. I'm able to perceive the subtle energy field, which means I'm actively reading what's present in the body and the space, and letting that guide the work.

During the integration phase, I often share what came through — impressions, images, or messages from the session. Clients frequently say this is where the deepest recognition happens. I work with a trauma-informed, non-pathologizing lens and specialize in highly sensitive people, neurodivergent individuals, and the LGBTQIA+ community.

What to expect in a reiki session

You arrive, you rest, you receive. There's nothing to do — just presence, warmth, and the gradual release of what the body has been holding.

01

Arrival & settling

You arrive, we talk briefly. You lie fully clothed on a massage table. Nothing is required of you except to rest.

02

Energy work

Hands are gently placed on or just above the body — head, shoulders, chest, abdomen, legs. The work follows the energy, not a rigid sequence.

03

What you may feel

Warmth, tingling, deep calm, emotional release, or simply heaviness turning into rest. Some fall asleep. All of it is welcome.

04

Integration & transmission

We return slowly. I share what came through during the work — impressions, images, or messages from the subtle field. This is often where the deepest recognition lands. Drink water, move gently.

What reiki supports

Regulation

Reiki invites the nervous system out of fight-or-flight and into rest — the state where healing actually happens.

Release

Emotion, tension, and energy that has been held in the body begins to move — gently, without force or pressure.

Restoration

When the system is no longer spending its resources on survival, it returns to its natural capacity for repair and renewal.

Reiki as a living practice

Reiki doesn't begin and end on the table. For me, it extends into the rhythms of daily life — including, perhaps most naturally, into the act of eating.

Before each meal, I take a moment to activate my food with reiki and gratitude. Gratitude for the soil, the growers, the hands that prepared it. I speak it aloud — a small, consistent signal to the nervous system that this moment is safe, and that receiving is possible.

When we enter a state of genuine gratitude before eating, the gut absorbs nutrients more effectively — and the body's relationship to nourishment fundamentally changes.

Research from the HeartMath Institute shows that the heart generates an electromagnetic field up to 5,000 times stronger than the brain's — one that extends several feet beyond the body and is measurable by those around you. When you shift into genuine gratitude or heart coherence, this field becomes more ordered, more rhythmic. That shift is felt by the food, the space, and everyone nearby.

Joe Dispenza's work takes this further: a heart-coherent gratitude practice of as little as ten minutes daily has been shown to increase immune function by over 50% in just four days. Gratitude isn't only emotionally restorative — it's biochemically and energetically regenerative.

Contrast this with eating in stress: in fight-or-flight, the body deprioritizes digestion, redirecting energy toward survival. The result is malabsorption and the downstream symptoms that follow. In the parasympathetic state — rest and digest — the body opens to what it's receiving.

This is what reiki before a meal draws on. Not ritual for ritual's sake, but a deliberate entry into coherence — so that the body receives nourishment from a state of openness rather than survival.

Questions about reiki in Montréal

What is reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice that works with the body's subtle energy field to support relaxation, stress reduction, and natural healing. A session involves the gentle placement of hands on or just above the body, facilitating the flow of energy and encouraging the nervous system to shift from stress into rest and repair.
Is reiki covered by insurance in Montréal?
Reiki sessions with Rio de Ki qualify for insurance receipts under naturopathy (ACNN #23-6826). Many extended health plans in Québec cover naturopathic consultations — verify with your provider whether your plan includes naturotherapy or naturopathy coverage.
What happens during a reiki session?
You remain fully clothed and lie comfortably on a massage table. Rio gently places her hands on or just above different areas of the body. Sessions are deeply relaxing — many people experience warmth, tingling, or profound calm. Some experience emotional release. There is no pressure, no manipulation, no talking required.
How many reiki sessions do I need?
A single session can bring noticeable relief. For lasting change in patterns of stress, anxiety, or emotional holding, a series of 3–5 sessions is generally recommended. Many clients return regularly as part of ongoing self-care.
Can reiki be combined with other therapies?
Yes — and Rio often integrates reiki into somatic therapy sessions alongside craniosacral work, myofascial release, and reflexology. It pairs well with talk therapy and other body-based approaches, deepening their effect by bringing the nervous system into a more receptive state. Learn more about somatic therapy in Montréal.
Do you offer virtual reiki sessions?
